Love you to the moon and back.
This week... Wow.
Let's start out with the least exciting to the most
exciting.
1. I got sick with another stomach infection. I'm all better
now.
2. A bunch of people lie to us all the time. Normal.
3. We heard the cars and saw the helicopters for the
BAJA1000
4. My companion got sick and we had to go get tests done on
him. They think it might be Typhoid. We'll have the results later today.
5. This is the biggie.....
Well, this Tuesday, or in other words Veterans day
supposedly, we ate lunch at the church because the sister that was supposed to
give us food got her teeth pulled or something so she just gave us food there
at the church. Anyways, as we got home to change our clothes a little bit, we
got this random call from this really long number. It ended up being from the
US. I answered it in Spanish, as usual, and she asked me, "Do you speak English?"
I said.... yes... Then she began to explain. She was the friend of a mom in
California who was needing our help. So then the mom called us. She told us that
her son had lied to her and told her he was going camping in Cali, but had
really gone down to Ensenada by himself. He had then been robbed or something
because he didn't have his wallet or his phone or anything. She didn't know all
the details, but she knew where he was. She told us that his dad was on his way
down to Ensenada right then, but was going to get there after the place where
his son was already closed. So, she thought of the missionaries! She asked if
we could go down to get him and keep him with us for a little bit until his dad
came. We agreed and went down there. When we got there we learned the whole
story. 16 year old Devon R. had decided to come down to Ensenada by himself to
go off-roading. When he got down here, he realized that he wouldn't have enough
money to buy gas for the return trip. So, he decided that he would sell his GPS
unit to someone on the street (mistake). He doesn't speak a lick of Spanish so
he found a guy that spoke English and the guy told him he had a buddy that
might be interested. So Devon followed him for a little while. All of a sudden
there were a bunch of guys surrounding Devon with knives. They robbed him,
stripped him down, tied him up, gagged him, and put a blindfold on. They then
put him in a room of a house. The guy that spoke English then left him there
telling him that he would be back when it got dark so that they could go steal
the car too. After about a minute of being alone, Devon was able to manage
getting himself untied (Later he told us that he and his friends always used to
practice that sort of thing). He then looked around and saw a board on the
house that didn't look very sturdy, so he took a good run at it and lowered his
shoulder. Sure enough he bust through the wall and began to run barefoot and
only in his boxers. He ran like crazy until he flagged down a bus that was
going by. Nobody spoke English, but the bus driver must of guessed something
was wrong from the skinny, naked white boy, with cut up feet standing in
front of him. The bus driver gave him some pants to wear and dropped him off at
a restaurant. There at the restaurant he asked if there was anyone who spoke English. They told him that there was an American couple that had just left.
He ran outside and just barely caught them by a few seconds before they drove
off. They helped him to call the cops, get some food, shirt, and some shoes.
The cops came and the ambulance too to see his feet (They were super cut up.
Really bad). Then they took him to a tourist office where they would find
someone who spoke English. From there, the tourist office took care of him.
They filed the report, got all of stolen passport information done, and
everything else. That was when he called his mom and told her what had happened
without details as to what really happened. That's when we showed up. We took
him to our house and gave him some food until his dad came to pick him
up.

Moral of the story... Don't lie to your parents. Don't come
down to Mexico alone. Don't try and sell a GPS on the street in Mexico. Follow
the Spirit.
Everything about that day was guided by God. The fact that
the mom of Devon got a hold of the only companionship of 2 white missionaries
here in Ensenada was amazing. That we were in the house at that time was
amazing. That we didn't have an appointment during those times of the day, that
we already had a ride that was going to take us somewhere else that day at that
hour that could take us to go pick him up was a miracle. The fact that we're
zone leaders and can go to all parts of the zone without troubles was amazing. That fact
that the sister had given us so much food that day so that we could share the
leftovers with Devon was amazing. God is miraculous.
Then 2 days later we get a call from Devon's dad. He was
thanking us. He explained how they got a hold of our number. Devon's mom had
called a friend of hers that works in Tijuana. This friend called another non
member friend. This non member friend got the number of the missionaries in
that area and then those missionaries gave them the number of us here. Pretty
ridiculous story all in all.
I know that God put us in the right place at the right time
to help out His son. I know that we are guided each day whether we realize it
or not. I know that the prayers of parents are answered.
I'm a missionary, I live in Ensenada, MX, I save kidnapped
children, and I'm a Mormon.
"Has your child been kidnapped in Ensenada? Ask the
missionaries!!! They can help you!"
Love you all!!!! I hope you have a great week!!
Love,
Elder Morgan
