Week 27 - It's Hot!!!

Welp. Hello again my family!

A picture of the dinner of Elder Segundo and I. I made a classic American grilled cheese and he made a classic Mexican quesadilla. I thought it was funny.

Love you all to the moon and back and then back to the moon so that we can stay there and live on the moon.....

A picture of the cockroach I killed at 2 in the morning today. I woke up in a fright because I felt it crawling up my leg and so I set off on a cockroach hunt with my flashlight and can of raid. I finally found the nasty thing after 10 minutes of silent hunting. Elder Segundo woke up to the sound of Raid being sprayed next to his ear! HAHA

This was a roller coaster.

First off, we had our Zone meeting this week and the Zone Leaders really concentrated on how we need to love our investigators and do this whole mission out of love. It was what I needed because I realized that I had started to get trapped in the very thing I set out not to get trapped in! The number’s game. I started worrying about the numbers!!!!! What was I thinking? It really helped me out this week to improve my teaching. I now feel like I’m teaching how I should!

It got HOT this week! About 100 degrees here. That’s not the most comfortable temperature in a white shirt and tie walking miles every day. But everyone says that’s nothing because here in the mission in Mexicali it gets up to 125!!!! The hottest place in the world! Second only to the Sahara Desert. I can’t wait to get sent there!

We had a great experience this week. The other set of Elders in our ward had a baptism and we had 6 investigators of our own in attendance! One of them came up to us after the baptism crying telling us how she felt something really powerful in her heart! The Spirit testifies of truth!

The only bummer is that of all the investigators that showed up to the baptism.... none of them went to church!! Argh! Nobody wants to go to church here. Oh well. We keep going forward!

This week we also learned of a few houses that burned down near our house. So, today we got up and went to go do some service over there for a few hours. It was a great project and we got a lot of work down. The crazy thing is that we never even met the owners, we just showed up with the Elder’s Quorum and started working without their knowledge. Haha I hope they will be happily surprised.

I know that this work is real. I know that more than anything we need to remember that these people are our brother’s and sister’s and that without our help, they can’t live with God again. They can’t live with their families and they can’t have the happiness that we have. I know that God looks at our desires and our efforts, not at the results. I love this work and will serve The Lord throughout all eternity.

Love you all! Stay safe and keep up the work!

Week 26 - Got to Skype Home :-)

Family of Mine,

Skyping with the family!!
Love you all to the moon and back!

Welp, this week....

What can I say about this week?.. It was hard! haha.

We worked hard this week like we normally do, but we didn't see hardly any results! A bunch of our appointments fell through this week and a lot of the members also let us down a bit. This meant that we were running around like crazy, but just spinning our wheels! Anyways, we're hoping that it'll go a little better this week.

We're really struggling with baptisms in this area because NOBODY wants to go to church! We teach about the Sabbath Day thoroughly and commit them to the chapel and they have rides from members and everything, but then they just don't show up! However, I am thankful for the gift of agency that our Heavenly Father gave me and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Let's see... today there was a dead dog that we found in a bag. Yeah, people just put their dead dogs in a trash bag and leave it in the street here.

What else happened? hmmmm... oh yeah! I got to talk to the family!!!! Wooooo!!! Love you all so much! It was so so so so so so so so good to talk to you all! I hope that you all didn't mind that I became a blubbering idiot at the end haha.

Anyways, that's pretty much how the week went. We're going to try super hard this week to help some people enter into this sacred covenant of Baptism and open the  doors of the straight and narrow path!

Love you all.

I know that this church is true. I know that My Savior lives, and that he paid the price for not just my sins, but for the sins of the entire world and worlds without number!

Love you all!

Week 25 - Cinco de Mayo

Family of mine that I love so much,

Elder Morgan and Flat Stanley

I love you SOOOOOOO much!

Happy Cinco de Mayo to all in the states. Of all the holidays here Cinco de Mayo is actually celebrated the least. Go figure. I've come to realize that our knowledge of Mexico is so bad.

This week was good and bad. I'll start with the bad first.

The hardest thing for our investigators is going to church! Nobody wants to do it! For example, this week we only had 2 investigators at church! That's horrible for our area. We should have like 10. We had rides and everything for all our investigators and the members passed by their house in the morning, but..... TADA! They didn't show up.... it's typical, but also a bit frustrating because we know how much good they can receive if they follow this one commandment. Everybody keeps the commandment not to kill, but they don’t seem to care about the equally important Sabbath Day. A commandment is a commandment. We need to keep them all!

Now the good parts of this week! 2 miracles that happened in the same day.

We went to go knock on the door of someone that we had street contacted early and had said we could pass by. Welp, she was hiding inside (happens all the time). She didn't come out, but I got this impression that we should talk to her neighbor who was outside preparing some food. We began to talk from the street and then I asked, "Do you have like 20 minutes to listen to our message?" She said, "Yes" so casually. This never happens! I felt like leaning over to Elder Segundo and saying, "What do we do now???? She said yes.... What do we do???" hahaha. But we taught a great lesson with her family and placed 3 baptismal dates!

Then... later in the day we went looking for a reference we had received from some other elders. Out came this young woman and we began to talk. Once again I asked, "Do you have like 20 minutes to listen to our message?" and she said once again! TADA YES! and invited us in. We placed another baptismal date with her and then invited her to church the next day and she said yes! Then as we were leaving, her sister came home and we told her, "Hey, we just taught your sister and she's going to go to church tomorrow, you want to go too?" and she said, "Sure!" We'll be waiting tomorrow! Wooo! So then the next day we passed by their house and they were all ready to go and everything! It was so awesome. Later that day we placed another baptismal date with the sister.

Anyway, this week has also started to be HOT! It's going to get hotter too! I'm starting to look and sound more Mexican every day. In fact, it's so hot that it's hard to sleep at night. So today I went and bought a fan so I can sleep! haha.

We also have a new District Leader! Elder Hold from Olympia, WA! He has about 7 and a half months here. Actually, I don't remember this too well, but he was in my Branch in the MTC. He left like a few days after I got there. He's super cool and we always talk about Pacific Northwest stuff.

Anyway, I know that this church is true! Can't wait to talk to you guys on Mothers Day! If we obey the commandments, we receive blessings. That's just how it works. If we understand this simple equation, we will always desire to obey!

Love you all and have a great week!

Love,
Elder Morgan
